Myth and Massacre: Ernst Wilhelm Nay and André Masson

The exhibition Myth and Massacre in the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection is the first to look at the artistic relationship between the French surrealist André Masson and the Berlin artist Ernst Wilhelm Nay. In post-war Germany, the latter's art became the figurehead of abstract modernism. The large-format painting "Massacre" by André Masson (1896-1987), created in 1931, forms the starting point of the exhibition.

Permanent exhibition: Surreal Worlds

The permanent exhibition "Surreal Worlds" in the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection shows the permanent collection in changing presentations. Surrealism takes centre stage. In addition to the main representatives of Surrealism, important precursors and successors of the movement that emerged in Paris in the early 1920s are also on display.
