To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin is showing a comprehensive exhibition of works by the most important painter of German Romanticism for the first time. In this special exhibition, you can discover and marvel around 60 paintings, 50 drawings and world-famous works. Experience the painter's artworks from the 19th of April until the 4th of August 2024 in Berlin.

The exhibition highlight on the occasion of the 250th birthday of the artist

Born in Greifswald, studied in Copenhagen - Caspar David Friedrich left his mark as an artist by breaking with the stylistic framework between Landscape painting and Baroque and Classicism art forms. One of his most famous works is entitled "The Wanderer above the Sea of Fog". This exhibition is also dedicated to his most famous works "Monk by the Sea" and "Abbey in Eichwald(oakwood)".

An oeuvre exhibition with around 60 paintings, 50 drawings and world-famous works

The exhibition is focussed on 3 central chapters and deals with the history and rediscovery of the artist himself, the perspectives of his art as well as the examination of his painting techniques and their effect. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich's birth, a long-awaited exhibition will be shown in the Alte Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. The exhibition "Caspar David Friedrich - Infinite Landscapes" is on the list of annual highlights in 2024.

The exhibition is already one of the highlights of the year 2024.

  • Children and young people under the age of 18 are admitted free of charge. Please note that tickets cannot be cancelled.
